Why exercise with Pilates?
Pilates is an effective at home workout that you can do with little to no equipment. The classic Mat Pilates class uses a cushioned mat, your body and gravity. Pilates is the only movement and exercise system I have found that not only gives you a great workout, but connects you to yourself and invigorates you for the rest of the day. People can move with Pilates as part of a recovery program or for sports enhancement and everything in between.
Where do I start?
- Sign up for the FREE Workout Calendar.
- Head over to my YouTube Channel and subscribe, clicking the bell notification so you know when a new video is out. If you are BRAND NEW (don’t be afraid we all had a first class) the 7-day Pilates for Beginners Series is a great place to start.
- Once you understand the basics of some Pilates exercises and concepts, explore the classes on the Channel and find the classes that works best for you. I have been doing this a pretty long time and I can say that some days I like to move slow and other days I move fast. With this in mind, I have a range of different classes you can try.
- Leave a comment or question on YouTube, Instagram or Facebook. This helps me know what you like so I can create more workouts for you.
What do I need to get started?
If you are just starting out I recommend a Pilates mat which will provide cushion for the joints while providing enough support for the exercises. A Pilates mat is thicker than a Yoga Mat. Once you try some of the classes, you can expand your at home Pilates studio with different pieces of inexpensive Pilates equipment such as balls, a Pilates ring and resistance bands. See my recommendations here.
Do you recommend anything besides Pilates?
Yes, I encourage leading an active life above and beyond the time you spend on the mat. Walk(faster), bike, run, swim… Whatever else you like to do, keep moving with it and Pilates will help the rest of your activities.
This is one reason why I have the Pilates for Life Membership where downloadable workouts are available and healthy habits are formed.
